Ohio’s future depends on our students getting a world-class education - no matter their race, zip code, or family income.

That means making sure we have the very best resources in our public schools and universities so all our students can thrive.

That means having quality infrastructure, excellent learning materials, well-paid teachers and staff who can take care of each kid, and a well-functioning bus transportation system that can safely get our kids to school.

But far too many of our kids still don’t have the same opportunities to succeed, because they go to crowded, poorly-funded schools that affect their ability to learn and grow. In some public schools, teachers are burned out, students don’t use world-class learning materials, and administrators don’t have the ability to provide their staff with the right support to care for kids with different needs.

We know better. We know we have more than enough in our state budget to make sure every single student can succeed, and that means fairly and fully funding our schools.

From the cities to the country, suburbs to the small towns, we’re joining together to make sure that our kids can go to great public schools and follow their dreams. We believe where you live or what you look like shouldn’t determine your opportunities to succeed.

Policy Recommendations

  • Make sure every kid in Ohio can attend a great public school by fully funding the Fair School Funding Plan and reducing voucher expansion, which siphons money away from the kids, families, and communities who need it most.

  • Help Ohio kids get off to a great start by making public preschool available to all 4-year-olds, moving toward full-day preschool.

  • Provide healthy school meals for all Ohio children by supplementing federal reimbursement.

  • Help more Ohioans complete higher education and training after high school by increasing the State Share of Instruction for higher education, at least enough to keep up with inflation.

  • Ensure support for Ohioans historically excluded from higher education and training after high school by weighting funding to best serve them.

  • Restructure and expand the Ohio College Opportunity Grant, Ohio’s primary need-based aid program, so it can be used by students choosing Ohio’s most affordable postsecondary options for a broader range of education-related expenses.
