We Demand Care for Careworkers
An Ohio that cares for the workers who take care of our families
From Toledo to Cincinnati, Akron to Dayton, Ohioans want all our families to be safe. In order to do that, our leaders must provide Ohio’s workers with enough resources to thrive – especially the care workers who help protect, educate, and empower our kids.
But for too long now, certain politicians have supported harmful policies that do not pay a fair return on our work and take money away from child care centers, while the wealthy few hire expensive help for their own children.
Every child deserves to be safe and thrive. Every child deserves to have a good life.
Ohio can truly live up to its potential as a great state if we fund our kids, pay all our workers a living wage, and help our parents afford the child care they need in order to work and provide for their families.
Whether we’re from the city, country, or the suburbs, we’re joining together this budget season to push for a child tax credit and other important supports so that all our kids can thrive. No exceptions.
Policy Recommendations
Make sure childcare workers, in-home care workers and community care workers are paid at least $20 an hour for their essential work by reimbursing providers for the actual cost of care.
Extend collective bargaining rights to care workers so those closest to the work can strengthen the sector.
Make sure pregnant people and children get the care they need by expanding Medicaid eligibility to include those with incomes at or below 300% of the federal poverty level ($74,580 for a family of three), and by including doula and midwife services in Medicaid coverage.
